Call for papers

The Center for Security Studies at Metropolitan University Prague (MUP) cordially invites academics and practitioners to submit paper proposals to its third annual experts' conference that will take place at MUP in Prague on December 2, 2011. The conference will be held in English only. We are looking for papers examining the challenges and opportunities in the realm of national security policies faced by the Visegrad Group (V4) countries as a consequence of the recent budgetary cuts in their national security expenditures. In particular, we welcome papers examining the following topics:

  • The recent strategic security and/or defense reviews conducted in V4 countries
  • The potential for sharing and/or pooling of certain military capacities among V4 countries
  • The participation of V4 countries in major security arrangements and/or organizations (especially NATO, EU, OSCE, UN)
  • The bilateral security relations of V4 countries with major players in the EU and beyond, in particular with the United States and/or Russia

If you would like to present a paper, please send an abstract via e-mail to conference@c4ss.cz by August 31, 2011. Abstracts should be 400-500 words long and submitted in one of the following formats: Word Document (.doc; or .rtf) or Adobe Acrobat (.pdf). Please include your full name, e-mail address and institutional affiliation. Authors of selected papers will be notified via e-mail by early September 2011. All papers presented at the conference will be considered for publication in a special section of the Central European Journal of International and Security Studies.
