The open-access, double-blind peer-reviewed Obrana a strategie (in English: Defence and Strategy) journal (founded in 2001) is published by the University of Defence, a state military university with a long tradition in scientific research in the field of defence and security and in cooperation with the partners from civilian universities and other reputable scientific centres in the Czech Republic and abroad.
It is published twice a year, always in June and December of the calendar year in electronic form on the portal www.obranaastrategie.cz. Until 2020, the journal was published in printed and electronic form, since 2021 it has been published only on the Internet.
Deadlines for issues are always March 15 and October 1 of the calendar year.

Obrana a strategie is using Open Journal System, which is open source journal management and publishing software. Click here for access and article submission.
The journal is registered by the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic under no. MK ČR E 16787 a Czech ISSN National Centre under ISSN 1802-7199 (online). It is registered at Publishers International Linking Association (CrossRef/PILA), registered digital object identifier – doi:10.3849/1802-7199. Since 2011, the journal has been indexed in the European Reference Index for the Humanities and Social Sciences (ERIH+). Since 2017 the journal has been indexed in Emerging Sources Citation Index (Web of Science), and since 2019 also in Scopus database. The content of the journal is part of the catalogue of the National Library of the Czech Republic, and it is also available for a number of international databases:

Obrana a strategie is an open access journal which means that all content is freely available without charge to the user or his/her institution. Users are allowed to read, download, copy, distribute, print, search, or link to the full texts of the articles, or use them for any other lawful purpose, without asking prior permission from the publisher or the author. This is in accordance with the Budapest Open Access Initiative definition of open access.
Journal Obrana a strategie publishes articles without any processing or submission charges.
Authors who publish with the Obrana a strategie agree to the following terms:
- Authors retain copyright and grant the journal right of first publication with the work simultaneously licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-NoDerivatives that allows others to share the work with an acknowledgement of the work's authorship and initial publication in this journal.
- Authors are able to enter into separate, additional contractual arrangements for the non-exclusive distribution of the journal's published version of the work (e.g., post it to an institutional repository or publish it in a book), with an acknowledgement of its initial publication in this journal.
- Authors are permitted and encouraged to post their work online (e.g., in institutional repositories or on their website) prior to and during the submission process, as it can lead to productive exchanges, as well as earlier and greater citation of published work.
Following the resolution of the National Security Council of 8 June 2020, the editorial team of the Obrana a strategie journal (Defence and Strategy journal) received the National Security Council Award for their significant contribution in the field of security policy of the Czech Republic for 2020, specifically for their active work in the security community, focusing on publishing activities dedicated to the development of science, research and education in the fields of defence and security.
