Central Europe 15 Years after the NATO Enlargement

The Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Prague and the Institute of International Relations Prague cordially invite you to the seminar "Central Europe 15 Years after the NATO Enlargement: Security Challenges, Perspectives and Perceptions".

On 12th March, 2014, the countries of the Visegrad Group are celebrating the 15th anniversary of joining NATO (or the 10th anniversary in the case of Slovakia). In commemoration of this occasion, the Embassy of Poland in Prague together with the Institute of International Relations Prague are organizing a seminar that will focus on the security policy in the region of Central Europe. The main goal of the first part of the seminar is to reflect on the impact on the V4 countries of their integration and membership in NATO, and the influence these countries have had and will have on the security environment in the region, in Europe and all over the globe. The second part of the seminar will focus on the security challenges that Central Europe faces, and on the perspectives of regional initiatives and cooperation. The seminar will be directed towards professionals and security experts from think tanks, NGOs, national administrations, diplomatic corps and defense industry.

The speakers at the seminar include:

  • Viktor Dvořák, Director of the Security Policy Department, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic
  • Andrzej Olechowski, former Minister of Foreign Affairs and Minister of Finance of the Republic of Poland
  • Ivo Samson, Director of the Institute of Security and Defense Studies, Bratislava
  • Csaba Törő, Senior Research Fellow, Hungarian Institute of International Relations, Budapest
  • Marcin Zaborowski, Director of the Polish Institute of International Affairs, Warsaw

Term: The seminar will take place on Friday, 7th March 2014 from 09:30 to 14:00.

Venue: The Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Prague, Valdštejnská 8.
