Slovak, Czech and British state secretaries will discuss the effectiveness of defence

The defence budgets of European countries are running low and the governments are calling on a greater efficiency and mutual cooperation at every level. The most significant conference on international relations and security in Central Europe GLOBSEC 2011 will take place in Bratislava in a few weeks. State Secretaries of the ministries of defence from Slovakia, Czech Republic and Great Britain will discuss how to tackle growing difference between the goals and capabilities in defence.

The lack of financial means of European countries has launched the process of efficiency increasing at the national level. Slovak and Czech defence departments are undergoing strategic review which will update the military and political ambition, as well as financial framework of the defence. On the NATO and EU level the duplicity needs to be removed as well. However, the closer regional cooperation such as the one between Great Britain and France at the end of last year, seems to be more rapid. Will other regional groups like the V4 follow this pattern? Will the NATO and the EU member states form some closely cooperating groups before the central coordination in Brussels is reinforced? Guests of the GLOBSEC Bratislava Global Security Forum will discuss this topic in the exclusive premises of the Kempinski Hotel River Park Bratislava.

The event is organized by the Slovak Atlantic Commission in cooperation with the Representation of the European Commission in Slovakia, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Slovak Republic , the NATO Public Diplomacy Division and the International Visegrad Fund. The event will take place under the auspices of H.E. Mikuláš Dzurinda, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Slovak Republic.
