Mgr. Hubert SMEKAL, M. A. Ph.D.
Born in 1979. He graduated from law at the Masaryk University and from European integration at Università di Bologna. He earned his PhD from European Studies at the MU. He was awarded Fulbright-Masaryk Visiting Post-Doc Researcher Scholarship with the Center for Study of Law and Society at UC Berkeley. He has been working as an assistant professor at the Faculty of Social Studies MU since 2008 and as a researcher at the IIPS since 2012. He was named a member of the Government’s Council for Human Rights. He has co-established Czech Center for Human Rights and Democratization which he currently chairs. He authored two books on human rights and co-authored or co-edited other four. He focuses on the role of courts in international politics and on human rights in the EU.
